Alpine’s unexpected double podium in Brazil surprised industry insiders as well as the team itself. Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly finished the weekend in Mexico in second and third place, just behind the impressive “cannibal” Max Verstappen.
This achievement is not only a source of joy but also has significant financial implications. According to Reuters, Alpine hit the jackpot with this result.
In fact, the double podium in the Brazilian Grand Prix is estimated to be worth a solid $50 million.
On a rainy and chaotic Sunday at the Interlagos circuit, the two French drivers scored more than twice the points they had earned in the previous 20 races combined. “We struggled to get points, and in these conditions, anything was possible,” Pierre Gasly remarked after the race. The driver #10 also gained two extra points from Saturday’s Sprint Race. “No one believed in us until the end. Two cars on the podium—no one would have bet on that at the beginning of the season.”
The 33 points earned on Sunday brought Alpine’s total to 49, propelling them from ninth to sixth place in the Constructors’ standings. They currently hold a three-point lead over the American team Haas and a five-point lead over Visa Cash App Racing Bulls.
This jackpot is crucial, as the Constructors’ Championship determines the prize money distribution among the 10 Formula 1 teams. According to Reuters, industry experts have estimated that the difference could reach $50 million if Alpine manages to maintain their position over the remaining three races.
