Red Bull is in turmoil, with two mechanics arguing on social media after Sergio Perez was eliminated in the Sprint Qualifying for the Brazilian GP. The Mexican driver seems increasingly on the outskirts of the team, despite his words reflecting an unshakable confidence. Starting in 2025, Liam Lawson might take his place, or there could even be a surprise in the form of Franco Colapinto.
Red Bull is not in a good place. The Milton Keynes team is going through a difficult season, despite the Drivers’ Championship standings suggesting otherwise. The season, which began with the scandal surrounding Christian Horner and his messages to his assistant, seemed to take a positive turn with the performance of the RB20. However, with Adrian Newey’s departure and the resurgence of Ferrari and McLaren, the situation has worsened.
Internal tensions between the team principal and the Max Verstappen – Helmut Marko duo are adding to the strain, and the divide is growing wider. The latest source of friction is Sergio Perez’s performance, as he was eliminated in Q2 of the Brazilian Sprint Qualifying, partly due to a team error.
Does Perez have the same car as Verstappen? Stop lying!
For years, there has been speculation about the car used by the Mexican driver: is it the same as Max Verstappen’s, who continues to achieve unmatchable lap times compared to Checo? The Red Bull management has consistently stated that it is, though the #11 has often raced with different specifications than the Dutchman.
The controversy has now reignited on social media, casting a shadow over the Red Bull environment. In response to a fan comment questioning the team’s actions in Sergio Perez’s garage, an unusually heated exchange took place.
FAN: “What are they doing in Checo’s garage? Seriously!”
GREG REESON [MECHANIC]: “We’re giving him the same equipment as Max.”
CHARLIE WILSON [MECHANIC]: “Why are you lying?”
It’s hard to say if this was simply inappropriate “British humor” between two colleagues or a real argument, revealing a troubling picture of the team. What remains clear is that there’s still something unresolved at Milton Keynes.
