Williams surprises everyone and takes the lead: 2025 car unveiling date. Williams takes the first step and surprises Formula 1.

As is now tradition, the 10 teams typically release early details about their projects and announce car launch dates in January. This year, however, the situation is different: F1 has decided to unveil all the cars in a single event. Despite this, Williams has surprised everyone by announcing the unveiling date for their 2025 car just moments ago.

When the announcement was made, much of the public was taken aback. For the upcoming Formula 1 season—the last under the current technical regulations—all 10 teams will present their cars at a single grand event in London scheduled for February 18. As has been the case in recent years, the usual online presentations are expected to showcase only the liveries.

To finally see the actual cars, complete with all the innovations introduced by the engineers, fans will have to wait until the end of February. From February 26 to 28, all teams will participate in the sole three-day testing session at the Bahrain circuit in preparation for the season opener in Australia in mid-March.

Many have already criticized Formula 1’s decision. Few have supported the single presentation event, with many remaining loyal to the old format. Formula 1 seems to be increasingly prioritizing the “show,” often at the expense of the sport itself, which should remain the central focus.

Despite this, some teams are determined to preserve tradition. Ferrari, for instance, announced weeks ago that they would unveil their actual car, project 677, on February 19 between Fiorano and Maranello. On the same day, both Hamilton and Leclerc are expected to complete the car’s first laps for 2025.

However, Ferrari is not alone in taking a different route. News has just emerged that Williams will also hold a separate unveiling. The English team will present the FW47, driven by Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon, on February 14 at Silverstone. However, the car will feature a “temporary” livery, with the final version to be revealed at the F1 event.

“Everyone at the factory is working hard to prepare our car for 2025,” said Alex Albon. “The February 14 launch should be a great way to kick off an important year for the entire team. We will fight as hard as possible with both cars from the very beginning, looking ahead to the opportunities 2026 will bring.”

New arrival Carlos Sainz also shared his thoughts: “This is an important moment for the team, and we will do our best to bring Williams back to the front. I was impressed by the Abu Dhabi tests. It was amazing to see the motivation and effort everyone put into such an important session. 2025 will be an exciting year.”
