Maximizing results
Following a particularly difficult 2024—marked by a series of crashes, technical and financial struggles, and the mid-season replacement of Logan Sargeant with Franco Colapinto—Williams has started the new year on a much more positive note. After just two races, the team led by James Vowles has already equaled the total points it scored throughout the entire previous season: 17.
A major boost came from the wave of disqualifications that affected the Shanghai race, with Alex Albon gaining two positions after the checkered flag and Carlos Sainz even moving up three spots. But for teams in the lower half of the standings, being ready to capitalize on unexpected opportunities is crucial, and Williams did not let this fortunate chance slip away.
Waiting for Carlos Sainz
The points haul so far is almost entirely thanks to Alex Albon, who finished fifth in Melbourne and seventh in Shanghai, never dropping out of the top 10 in qualifying either. The disappointment, for now, is Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard’s adaptation to his new car is likely taking longer than expected, but James Vowles remains highly confident in him.
Once the former Ferrari driver manages to extract the full potential from the FW47 and contribute more consistently to the team’s results, the historic British outfit could become a serious contender for sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship—a target that seemed impossible to reach just a few years ago.
