One of the hidden stars of Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix was Carlos Sainz. The Williams driver, starting from the back of the grid, displayed remarkable skill in climbing through the field and crossing the finish line in tenth place, securing a valuable point for the Grove-based team’s bid for fifth in the Constructors’ Championship. As a result, the English team now holds a 30-point advantage over Racing Bulls.
Carlos Sainz’s real show came after his pit stop, which was delayed as long as possible. The former Ferrari driver returned to the track in 15th place and, in just eight laps – from lap 52 to lap 60 – overtook five competitors to reach the top 10.
It was an impressive sequence of overtakes, largely aided by fresh soft tires, but one that was barely shown on live TV. To make up for it, F1’s social channels shared on-board footage of Carlos Sainz’s climb, highlighting his skillful maneuvers on a circuit notoriously difficult for overtaking.
