Following incidents in recent races involving Franco Colapinto and Alex Albon, especially those in Brazil that caused significant damage to the British team, speculation arose about a possible absence in Las Vegas. But is there any truth to this story?
Will Williams race in the Las Vegas GP or not?
“I just spoke with Williams,” reported F1 journalist Lawrence Barretto on his social media. “They told me there is no truth to the rumors that they won’t be in Las Vegas after sustaining heavy damage from the three incidents in Brazil.”
“They assured me they will have both cars ready to race in Nevada. It’s an incredible effort by the team and their suppliers.”
Commentator Will Buxton added, “It seems James Vowles’ honesty about the ripple effects of the Brazilian GP has been taken to ridiculous extremes in recent days. The team won’t miss Las Vegas. They will have both cars.”
We also share the words of Williams’ team principal, who was understandably less optimistic after the events of the Brazilian weekend at the Interlagos circuit.
“No team on the grid can withstand five major incidents in two race weekends. It’s simply a matter of spare parts—we don’t have enough to handle that level of attrition. However, I have high hopes for Vegas. Last year, we were fast there, and I’m confident the car will perform well in those conditions. We’ll do our best to prepare two cars with the best possible specifications and ensure we have enough spare parts to make it happen.”
The situation for the British team is undoubtedly challenging, and both Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto will need to exercise great caution in the remaining three races, especially with the budget cap in place.
