Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly shared a podium in the 2024 Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix at the Interlagos circuit, where the Dutchman clinched victory in an incredible race, starting from 17th position. His excellent race reading played a crucial role in making the overtakes needed for Max to cross the line first.
This year, Red Bull is no longer as dominant, which has brought us back to seeing Verstappen battle with other drivers. When it comes to intense battles, Max is hard to ignore, especially recently, with incidents like his contact with Lando Norris in Austria, as well as moments in Austin and Mexico.
“What’s clear is that Max’s racing style is quite unique on the grid. When you fight with Max, the outcome is often different than when you race with other drivers.”
Pierre Gasly emphasized that not all of Max Verstappen’s moves are necessarily fair, but regardless, he’s a challenging competitor. “Whether it’s right or not, that’s another question, but racing him is guaranteed to be a tough fight. As for the result of the battle, it could end in an incident or a penalty. He’s also very smart in using the rules and takes everything to the limit, which is exactly what you expect when you’re fighting for a World Championship.” – the Frenchman pointed out.
F1 drivers often know each other from a young age, having raced in lower categories. To conclude, Pierre Gasly shared some of his experiences racing against Max Verstappen. “Many times, I ended up on the grass because Max would start behind me, and that was just the way he raced back then.”
