Abu Dhabi test: McLaren gathers valuable data and looks to 2026 with confidence

McLaren also wrapped up the 2025 season with post-season testing at the Yas Marina Circuit, a crucial event for collecting data on the 2026 Pirelli tyres and giving their drivers track time. Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, and Pato O’Ward shared the track, while racing director Randy Singh summed up a season full of intensity and achievements.

Norris and Piastri working with Pirelli

Lando Norris commented on his day:

“It was fantastic to get back behind the wheel of our championship-winning car for the last time this year. We worked well on the Pirelli testing program, providing valuable feedback to help us prepare for 2026. Thanks to everyone for the work this year, now it’s time to rest before getting back to it.”

Oscar Piastri reflected on his final laps in the 2025 McLaren:

“It was great to return to the MCL39 for another afternoon after a season full of success. It’s always positive to support Pirelli and provide tyre feedback, as well as to get a good feel for the car. It has been an intense year, so I want to thank the team for their constant commitment. Now we rest, recharge, and then focus on what promises to be an exciting 2026.”

O’Ward and the team assessment

Rookie Pato O’Ward commented on the day:

“It’s always a fantastic day when you get the chance to drive a Formula 1 car. After a positive FP1 session last week, it was great to continue improving. We worked well on our program, making good progress and continuing to learn more. Thanks to the team for this opportunity; it’s been another fantastic day.”

Racing director Randy Singh summarized the session:

“We conclude the 2025 season with a highly successful day of testing at Yas Marina. It has been a long and exciting season, so thanks to the team for their constant commitment and support. Pato participated in our Young Drivers’ Test, completing an intense program this year between IndyCar and F1. As always, he delivered excellent results and provided valuable feedback and insights. Thanks to him for his support this season. Lando and Oscar drove our 2025 car modified to fit 2026 tyres, in the morning and afternoon respectively. We learned a lot about the 2026 Pirelli tyres, testing a range of compounds and starting to understand their behavior while working closely with Pirelli. Our preparations for 2026 are already well underway, and we look forward to starting the new era of Formula 1 after a short break to recharge and reset.”

After a brief pause, the team is preparing to kick off a 2026 season that promises to be thrilling.
