McLaren triumphs with fairness at Abu Dhabi
The 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix closed a memorable season, delivering the World Championship to Lando Norris after an intense but fair race. Despite Max Verstappen’s victory and Oscar Piastri’s second place, Norris’ third-place finish was enough to secure the title, fulfilling the expectations of team principal Andrea Stella, who had called for sportsmanship and caution ahead of the race.
A world title decided through sportsmanship
Before the race, Stella stated:
“Regarding the options available to Max to play his cards, honestly I’m not too worried. I think we will see an interesting race, but I’m confident that everything will happen within the limits of sportsmanship and fairness.”
His words were confirmed on track: Max Verstappen won the race, Oscar Piastri finished second, and Norris, in third, clinched the championship with maturity and without any highly controversial incidents.
Norris’ caution at turn 1 becomes a winning strategy
Stella added:
“From Lando’s perspective, considering the inside of turn 1 in Abu Dhabi, I think he will be relatively cautious. He’s the type who doesn’t necessarily get a better exit from the inside; the car on the outside can close the line, so I expect a certain level of prudence, which is exactly what I would recommend. Certainly, Lando is in a very strong position from this point of view, so I think this is the right approach.”
Lando Norris followed this advice, avoiding unnecessary risks at the start and managing the race intelligently, ultimately reaching the podium that secured him the world championship.
In an era where championship deciders have so often descended into controversy, McLaren’s 2025 triumph stands out for all the right reasons. Speed, strategy and sportsmanship – the perfect way to claim the crown.
