Unexpected Head-to-Head
After nearly a month-long break, Formula 1 is set to return to the track for the final stretch of the 2024 season. Six Grands Prix and three Sprint races over a month and a half will decide the world title, which is currently contested between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. The Dutch driver has the experience of three consecutive titles and a 52-point lead, but the Englishman can rely on what is currently the best car on the grid. The battle is extremely interesting and, more importantly, was totally unexpected at the start of the season when many thought the Red Bull-Max Verstappen combination would easily crush the competition.
Gunther Steiner’s Analysis: Lando Norris Favored
Given the current points situation and keeping in mind that Lando Norris has had a few too many missed opportunities this season, many still consider the world champion as the favorite. However, former Haas team principal Gunther Steiner, now rebranded as a commentator in the F1 world, has a different view. Speaking on the podcast *The Sports Agents* with journalist Will Buxton, Gunther Steiner identified the British driver as the one with the advantage in this long six-weekend final sprint.
“I believe the title race is wide open between Lando and Max,” Gunther Steiner said. “And I think Lando is in a better position to win it, at the moment. This is my personal opinion. He’s doing much better right now, while Max is struggling with his car. This makes it all very interesting.” – the former Haas team principal explained.
A decisive turning point in this head-to-head could come as early as the United States Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend in Austin, where we will see if and how much the updates brought by Red Bull will improve the performance of the RB20.
