Max Verstappen – Lando Norris, title duel in Austin
After a month-long break, Formula 1 is back on track. In Austin, Texas, a crucial episode of the title duel between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris will take place: the British driver is catching up fast (he’s 52 points behind) but needs to win almost every race from now until the end of the year and hope for some mistakes from Super Max. Verstappen and Red Bull are not exactly in their best moment of the year, but they showed some signs of revival in Singapore with a second-place finish, which is invaluable in terms of the championship.
Max Verstappen’s comments
McLaren comes to COTA as the favorite, but Max Verstappen wants to defend his lead and is counting on the adjustments made to the RB20: “We had a few weeks off from racing, which gave us time to focus and work hard on our performance ahead of the United States Grand Prix which will take place at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin. We’ve made some changes to the car, hoping to adapt it better to this circuit, and we’ll see if that makes us more competitive when we hit the track,” commented the three-time world champion.
“This week will be another hectic Sprint race, with a lot going on throughout the weekend. Austin is a really fantastic city, and the atmosphere at the track is unmatched. For this race, I’ll be wearing my U.S. helmet again, which is a tribute to the passionate fans of this city and features the skyline of all three U.S. cities we race in. We have a lot of great memories here, and we’re looking forward to getting back on track this week.” – he added.
Sergio Perez’s words
“It feels like we’ve been away from racing for a long time,” added Sergio Perez. “It’s great to come back and head to one of our favorite races of the season. It’s a special race for me, and the support here is really great. I’ve been training hard at home in Mexico, and I’ve been in regular contact with the team in the UK. We’re trying to come into Austin in a better position with the car, we’ve made some changes during the break, aiming to improve our pace, and we’ll see how competitive we are in Austin. Since it’s a Sprint race, things are a bit more complicated because we only have one practice session to fine-tune the car, but that’s where teamwork comes into play, and that’s something we excel at.” – the Mexican driver concluded.
