Six races and three Sprints remain until the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season. There are still many points available for the teams to decide the winners of a 2024 that delivered more excitement than expected. Red Bull’s dominance has not been as strong as in 2023, making the fight for the top much more unpredictable.
The United States Grand Prix weekend in Austin marks the beginning of the final stretch that will also bring the farewell between Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton, as reiterated by Toto Wolff. The British driver will bid farewell to the Silver Arrows to begin his adventure with Scuderia Ferrari, as he seeks the eighth world title of his career.
“We hope to finish on a high”
In comments ahead of the Austin Grand Prix weekend, Toto Wolff outlined Mercedes’ goals for the season’s conclusion. “This weekend starts the final part of the season. We have six races in eight weeks, culminating in the grand finale in Abu Dhabi,” said the Team Principal of the Silver Arrows.
“Even though we are not in the championship fight, there are still many opportunities to seize. In Texas, we will bring our last upgrade package and try to close the gap with our rivals,” Toto Wolff continued. “These races will definitely help us understand a lot for 2025. We want to finish the season on a high, also to give Lewis the proper farewell.” – he pointed out.
The Sprint Race format will return in Austin, giving drivers more points up for grabs. “We will need to be smart with the new package since we’ll have little time to test the new parts. COTA is a fantastic track, but last year we struggled. Every time it’s a challenge for both the car and the driver,” Toto Wolff concluded.
