The mystery around Simone Resta’s role at Mercedes. Simone Resta's role at Mercedes.

Mercedes, confidence in Simone Resta
After 23 years at Ferrari, Simone Resta passed through the gates of Maranello for the last time this past spring to take on a new professional challenge with Mercedes, a team that has frequently welcomed prominent figures with a past at the Scuderia.

Simone Resta began his journey at Mercedes as Director of Strategic Development, a role he held for only two months before being promoted in November to Deputy Technical Director, working closely with James Allison (another ex-Ferrari figure) with whom he had previously collaborated in Maranello during Sebastian Vettel‘s tenure.

Simone Resta’s role
In the past few hours, rumors spread on social media claiming that Simona Resta had even taken on the role of technical director, an unusual claim given that a team like Mercedes typically makes official announcements for such high-profile promotions.

This is most likely a misunderstanding involving Simona Resta, who did indeed hold the position of technical director but at Haas (from 2021 to 2023). The engineer from Faenza has since updated his profile, describing his role as “Deputy Technical Director at Mercedes.” Nevertheless, Simona Resta’s position is central to the 2025 project, a season in which the Brackley team aims to return to the top, as McLaren and Ferrari have recently done.
