Aston Martin, a waiting 2025 despite Adrian Newey
The arrival of Adrian Newey is not enough to warm up the atmosphere in the corridors of Aston Martin’s new and futuristic super factory in Silverstone. At least for the 2025 season, as the English design genius will primarily be working on the car resulting from the new and upcoming regulation revolution. And while it’s clear to everyone, from Fernando Alonso down, that the true goal is the blank slate from which all constructors will have to start designing next year’s cars, the team is preparing for another transition year.
In other words, the thrilling achievements of the 2023 season – when at one point Alonso seemed like the only driver on the grid who could challenge Max Verstappen’s dominance – seem destined to remain a distant memory. At least, this is the impression of Spanish driver Daniel Juncadella, who has been back with the team since last December (when it was still called Force India) to work in the simulator and help the team during race weekends.
Daniel Juncadella’s comment
Speaking on the Spanish radio show “L’Angle del Miramar” on Radio Mollet, Juncadella set expectations for the team’s 2025 results: “The expectations at Aston Martin? They are low. It’s not that we will waste the season because it will still be important to be competitive this year. But it’s also true that it will be a championship in which we collect all the possible information for the next one, since the expectations for that year are very high.”
However, there is still the possibility of some surprises in 2025, considering the extra weapon that Aston Martin’s garage is aware of: Fernando Alonso. “All the teams,” the 33-year-old from Barcelona added, “are already very close, and we hope this will be the trend this year as well. Because when the drivers are close, Fernando can make the difference. So I’m confident we might have some surprises.” Meanwhile, the hope is that Adrian Newey will come to the rescue of Aston Martin in 2026…
