Farewell to Daniel Ricciardo, as Yuki Tsunoda remembers his former F1 teammate. The Australian was dropped by Racing Bulls after the Singapore Grand Prix due to his poor performances. In his place comes Liam Lawson, who will need to quickly re-acclimate to the Circus if he wants to secure the seat for 2025. Meanwhile, shadows continue to loom over Sergio Perez’s seat.
Being a driver in the Red Bull universe is certainly not easy. The leadership of the Austrian team demands a lot of effort and excellent performances, having repeatedly shown they are not hesitant to fire drivers. Since Max Verstappen’s arrival at the main team, many drivers have rotated through both Red Bull and AlphaTauri/VCARB, in search of talent that could match him.
Daniel Ricciardo is just the latest in a long list of names discarded by Red Bull. A driver who had been incredibly promising in his early years in the Circus, only to lose his way after his first departure from the Milton Keynes team. However, Yuki Tsunoda wanted to acknowledge his value, admitting that it was the Australian from whom he learned the most in Formula 1.
“We talked after the Singapore race, we thanked and complimented each other, and to be honest, I was a bit emotional,” Yuki Tsunoda explained. “He was a great teammate, and I believe he’s the driver I’ve learned the most from. I saw a couple of his posts on social media, and it looks like he’s enjoying some time off.”
“I just need to keep proving my worth and my way of working during race weekends, focusing on what I need to do and on the opportunities. I don’t think the dynamic will change; I believe for Liam [Lawson], this is not his first time with our team, and we’ve both already experienced similar situations. I think what motivates us right now is maintaining our position in the Constructors’ standings.” – the Japanese racing driver concluded.
