Sergio Perez hopes to bounce back in Mexican GP but warns: “We can’t exploit all the potential”. Sergio Perez opens up on his prospects in the Mexican Grand Prix.

Sergio Perez, 2024 F1

After a rather difficult 2024 Formula 1 season, the home race seems like it could be a true turning point. Sergio Perez is well aware of this and, on the eve of the Mexican Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, he emphasized how important this weekend is, adding a comment on “his” Red Bull.

In Austin, the Mexican did not have the same components installed on his car as Max Verstappen’s. This contributed to the two teammates finishing quite far apart, with the three-time champion making it to the podium while Sergio Perez crossed the line only in seventh.

Another negative result, with Red Bull increasingly struggling in the Constructors’ standings, has led Helmut Marko and Christian Horner to resume discussions about the future. The Mexican has a contract for next year, but it seems unlikely he’ll be alongside Max Verstappen in 2025.

Between the dream of Oscar Piastri and the more probable option of Liam Lawson, Sergio Perez will need to make the most of his home race to turn his season around.

Checo motivated but warns about “his” Red Bull

In the press conference opening the Mexican GP, Sergio Perez addressed this topic directly. “I am aware that my season has been a disaster,” the Mexican admitted. “For this reason, I hope to get a good result here; it could have a big impact. In Formula 1, momentum is always very important, but it’s also true that in this sport people only look at the last race.”

“Certainly, performing well here could turn my championship around. We won’t have the car’s full potential available because we’re trying different things,” concluded Sergio Perez ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix weekend.
