At the end of 2022, Sebastian Vettel concluded his journey as a Formula 1 driver, but Red Bull could welcome him back in a different capacity. The German driver enjoyed a long career with outstanding results. Despite his strong connection with Ferrari, Vettel achieved his greatest successes with Red Bull. It is with the Austrian team that he now wishes to reconnect with the paddock. Although he had retired, driver number 5 has never fully stepped away from the racing world, making several returns to circuits during race weekends.

During the 21st round of this season, the Brazilian Grand Prix, the former Red Bull driver returned to the paddock, sparking renewed speculation about his future. Vettel himself commented on the situation, starting from the recent developments within the Austrian team this year, including Christian Horner’s departure and Laurent Mekies’ arrival as team principal.

Speaking about the French executive, Sebastian Vettel said, “I have worked with him, and he is truly, truly fantastic, but I believe Christian left a significant mark. I am not fully aware of the current team organization, its structure, and especially the plan for the future. At this point, I think it is fair to say: ‘let’s wait and see how it unfolds.’”

Could Sebastian Vettel become part of Red Bull’s future? The former driver admitted to having discussions with Helmut Marko about the possibility, but he also clarified that nothing concrete ever came of it. “I spoke a little with Helmut, but the idea never went anywhere, it never took off.”

“I love Formula 1. At first, I thought: I’m not sure I want to keep following it because I need to take some distance and things like that. But I watch the races and follow them, and I enjoy it because I love this sport. I also know the guys, so I am still connected with them in that sense. I don’t know if the right opportunity, position, perspective, or any other possibility will arise, but maybe there will be a role I could take on with pleasure. Time will tell.” – the former Red Bull and Ferrari driver pointed out.
