Sebastian Vettel has commented on the rumors suggesting he could soon return to Red Bull, potentially replacing Helmut Marko.
A few years after leaving Formula 1, Sebastian Vettel could make his return to the sport, this time as Helmut Marko’s successor at Red Bull. The Austrian senior advisor has openly expressed his intention to step down from his role at the Milton Keynes-based team in the near future and is therefore looking for someone to take his place.
That successor could be none other than the four-time world champion. Vettel recently completed a master’s degree at Harvard focused on brand management in the entertainment industry — a strategic step for someone aiming to lead an organization like Red Bull Racing.
Sebastian Vettel confirms interest in future F1 role
But how real are these rumors? The former Ferrari driver has directly addressed the speculation linking him to a return to Formula 1. “There has been some contact. I get along very well with Helmut and we speak often. We haven’t gone into much detail yet, but we have certainly discussed the possibility of me returning, though nothing has been defined in terms of role,” said Sebastian Vettel.
“To be honest, I haven’t been very close to Formula 1 in recent years, but I’m sure Marko knows what he’s doing, and there’s a lot to learn from him. It’s impossible to replace him considering everything he’s done over the years. On several occasions he’s confirmed that he will eventually step down, but for now he’s still there. I hope he remains at Red Bull for a long time, but he knows well that the day will come when he’ll have to say goodbye. Knowing the kind of person he is, he’ll surely recognize the right time,” the German added.
Helmut Marko’s future is likely closely tied to that of Max Verstappen. If the Dutchman were to leave Red Bull, the Austrian advisor might seize the opportunity to begin a new chapter — potentially placing Sebastian Vettel at the helm of the team’s future.
