In recent hours, a sensational rumor has circulated that Red Bull is interested in Franco Colapinto, to place him in RB for 2025. Franco Colapinto, by popular demand, could be part of the Formula 1 grid in 2025 as well. This is the sensational news reported by Joe Saward, a well-known English journalist, according to whom Red Bull has set its sights on the young Argentine, who has impressed in his four Grand Prix races so far in his career.
Franco Colapinto, along with Liam Lawson, is undoubtedly one of the brightest talents of the new generation, but with Williams having already completed its 2025 lineup with Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz and with Sauber keen to focus heavily on Gabriel Bortoleto, his chances of returning to the grid next year seem slim.
Franco Colapinto clings to the RB hope
But this is precisely where Red Bull could offer the 21-year-old from Pilar an important lifeline to allow him to start in the next championship as well.
Although Christian Horner and Helmut Marko have preserved Sergio Perez’s seat at least until the end of the season, silencing rumors about a possible early dismissal during the summer break, the future of the Mexican continues to be a taboo.
Even in Texas, the Guadalajara native only managed ninth place in qualifying and an anonymous seventh position in the race, once again finishing a significant distance behind teammate Max Verstappen.
In contrast, Liam Lawson, who started from the back due to a 60-position grid penalty, was the absolute protagonist at COTA, climbing his way up to finish in a splendid ninth position.
If he continues to perform like this in the upcoming races, it is clear that Red Bull would be almost “forced” to make a drastic decision, sidelining Perez and giving the opportunity of a lifetime to the young New Zealander.
Should this scenario actually materialize, an attractive seat would obviously open up at RB alongside Yuki Tsunoda, allowing Franco Colapinto to potentially find an easier access route. However, the negotiation remains difficult to realize, as Williams does not want to part with the Argentine on a permanent basis but only on loan. In the meantime, amidst the speculative market and otherwise, the driver market carousel has started spinning again.
