Lando Norris returns to “his” Austria
The crash that ended his Canadian GP could leave some lingering effects for Lando Norris, who now needs to deliver a convincing response. Unfortunately for him, Formula 1 took a one-week break after Montreal, denying him an immediate chance to bounce back. That opportunity now comes at a track he knows and loves. At the Red Bull Ring, Norris holds sweet memories: he earned his first career podium here and, whenever he finished the race, has always placed in the top seven – even when driving a midfield car.
Lando Norris’ words
The British driver also wants to make up for the 2024 edition of the race, which was ruined by a collision with Max Verstappen that sparked a tense rivalry with the four-time world champion. “I’m looking forward to racing in Austria this week, it’s a circuit where I have great memories and it marks the start of another double-header,” he said. “I’ve worked hard to prepare with the team, spending time at the factory with my engineers. Now it’s time to bring that preparation to the track and focus on achieving strong results.”
Oscar Piastri’s words
Oscar Piastri heads to the Red Bull Ring as championship leader, a position reinforced by the events in Canada, where his teammate’s mistake allowed him to extend his lead to +22 points. “I finished second in Austria in 2024, and the goal is to do even better this year. I want to start this run of European races on the right foot, going on the attack. It’s a short but fun circuit to drive. I enjoy the mix of straights and fast downhill corners. The team is doing a great job and I can’t wait to get back in the car.”
During the weekend, McLaren will also give FP1 track time to Alex Dunne, who will make his debut in a Formula 1 race weekend.
