After a difficult outing in Singapore, the Sauber team is ready to get back on track with renewed determination, aiming to return to the top ten at one of the most iconic venues on the Formula 1 calendar: the Circuit of the Americas in Austin.
With the Sprint format promising non-stop action from the opening laps, every session will be crucial in securing valuable points and regaining momentum as the championship enters its final stretch. The electric atmosphere of Austin, the passionate fans, and the technical demands of the track will make this weekend the perfect test to showcase both the potential of the team and the capabilities of the car.
Team Principal’s thoughts ahead of Austin
Sauber Team Principal Jonathan Wheatley shared his expectations ahead of the Austin Grand Prix:
“We head to Austin knowing there are still plenty of opportunities for us as the season approaches its final stages. After a challenging weekend in Singapore, the team is eager to bounce back and fully focused on delivering a strong performance. The Circuit of the Americas can be tricky, with its bumpy surface and exposure to crosswinds, so once again attention to detail and flawless execution will be crucial. The midfield battle is always decided by fine margins, and this weekend will be no exception. The Sprint format also gives us more chances to test ourselves, and as a team, we’re determined to make the most of every opportunity, pushing hard to achieve the best possible result.”
Drivers’ comments
Nico Hülkenberg expressed his enthusiasm ahead of one of his favorite races on the calendar:
“Austin is always a highlight — one of my favorite stops of the year. The atmosphere, the fans, and the track itself make it a lot of fun, and overall it’s just a fantastic week. After some ups and downs in Singapore, we’ve regrouped and moved on, focusing on extracting the maximum from the car. The Sprint format means we have less time to get everything dialed in, but it’s the same for everyone, so we’ll push hard to make every lap count and put ourselves in a good position for both the Sprint and Sunday’s race.”
Gabriel Bortoleto, preparing for his first race at the Circuit of the Americas, shared his excitement:
“I can’t wait to race in Austin. It’s one of those circuits everyone speaks highly of, and I’ve spent time in the simulator preparing for it. We’ve done our homework after Singapore and we’re ready for the upcoming weekend. Of course, we’ll need to make the most of the single practice session to get familiar with the track and fine-tune the car setup, but if we stay focused and seize our chances, I’m confident we can deliver a solid performance.”
