Sauber is the only team still with zero points in the Constructors’ Championship ahead of the United States Grand Prix, which is set to take place this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas. The Hinwil-based team continues to push the development of the C44, hoping to show signs of progress in what has been its most challenging season. The team is navigating a tough transition period as it moves toward the entry of Audi, which will officially debut in 2026.
In Austin, Sauber brought significant updates: the front wing is completely redesigned. The C44 has suffered from major aerodynamic load losses depending on changes in ride height.
The car developed by James Key has been suffering from excessive pitch sensitivity. In response, Hinwil has opted for a main profile with an increased chord length. The goal is to generate more downforce, even with a wing set slightly higher off the ground. The hope is to create a car that is less critical in its behavior and easier to set up.
The updates are not limited to the front wing: the front brake ducts and the covers on both the front and rear suspension arms have been redesigned. This is the final update of the season, as the Swiss technical department is now heavily focused on developing next year’s car.
The hope of catching Alpine, which sits second to last in the Constructors’ standings with 13 points, seems like a distant dream, but for now, Sauber would be satisfied with starting to score points, aiming to show their new boss, Mattia Binotto, that things are beginning to improve.
