The 2025 Formula 1 season was supposed to be Lando Norris’s year of redemption. After lessons learned from Max Verstappen last season and the weaknesses he showed, the driver arrived in Melbourne aware that he was among the favorites for the World Championship. However, in these first Grands Prix, his results have gone from overwhelming wins to gross mistakes, losing important points along the way.
Paradoxically, the most formidable enemy for the young Brit is not Oscar Piastri, but himself. In front of the cameras, Lando Norris has often shown himself to be extremely self-critical, doubting his own abilities. While on one hand this narrative is exaggerated by the media—because Norris is not just any driver—on the other hand, this vulnerability leads him into a negative spiral of thoughts, creating pressure that will weigh him down.
Riccardo Patrese also highlighted the Englishman’s qualities, encouraging him to get on track with more determination. “Norris is a bit weak in self-esteem, sometimes he gets down and his performances suffer. But a win like Monaco will remind him that he can do it. Sometimes I see him with a dark face, but he is definitely a fast driver, as he has shown on other occasions. He can become world champion, but he must first convince himself. Conversely, a driver like Oscar Piastri, even after a weekend finishing behind Norris, doesn’t get mentally shaken. We will see him in Barcelona confident he will have his chance, and the same attitude is needed from his teammate,” the former driver said on the podcast Terruzzi racconta.
