All together, passionately
Formula 1 continues to pursue the path of spectacle and show, even off the track. The heads of the Circus, along with those of the FIA, have just announced an interesting change that will take place starting next season: rather than presenting their new cars in the traditional individual manner—each on a different date—teams will take part in a grand show before the start of the season, where they will all unveil their respective cars together.
The first mega season-opening party will take place on February 18, 2025, between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM at the O2 Arena in London. It will be created by visionary creative Brian Burke of BrianBurkeCreative, Stufish Entertainment Architects, DX7 Design, and production company 1826. The show, also designed to celebrate the 75th anniversary of F1, will feature the ten teams, their respective team principals, and drivers.
No more ‘fake’?
The hope—though it may not be fulfilled—is to eliminate the ‘fake’ presentations seen in recent seasons, when several teams had only unveiled renderings or show-cars derived from the previous season’s car, revealing the ‘real’ new car only during pre-season testing. However, teams will not be obligated in this regard. The official F1 statement only mentions, generically, “new liveries.”
With a single collective event, maximum media attention can be generated, avoiding the fragmentation of the hype that these events always ensure, especially for top teams, and even more so in a season like 2025, when, alongside the new cars, several new driver arrivals at various teams will also be presented, starting with Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari.
Comments from Stefano Domenicali and Mohammed Ben Sulayem
“For the first time, we will bring together our fans, all 20 superstars of our sport, and some very special guests to officially kick off the new season and celebrate our 75th year of racing,” said Stefano Domenicali. “2025 promises to be an epic season after all the thrilling moments we’ve had so far in 2024. This will be a fantastic opportunity for fans of all ages to experience the incredible entertainment that is Formula 1.”
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem stated: “The FIA is pleased to join our colleagues from the FOM and all the teams in organizing the season-opening event of Formula 1. This occasion will also be the perfect prelude to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of this sport during the 2025 season.”
