Lando Norris admits Turn 1 mistake cost him Las Vegas win – “It was all in my hands”. Lando Norris finishes second to Max Verstappen at the Las Vegas GP.

Lando Norris, McLaren, 2025 F1
Lando Norris claimed second place at the Las Vegas Grand Prix after 50 intense laps, holding off a strong challenge from George Russell. Max Verstappen dominated the race, finishing 20 seconds ahead to take the victory. The current championship leader ran a one-stop strategy, starting on medium tyres and finishing on hards. Norris now sits 30 points behind Oscar Piastri and will have his first opportunity to close the championship gap next week in Qatar.

Norris reflects on Las Vegas: “I made the mistake”

After the race, Norris spoke about his performance:

“At the first corner, I made the mistake. I braked too late and ran wide. Max took the space and went on to do his race. It’s a shame because it was all in my hands. When you finish twenty seconds behind someone, it means they simply did everything better than you. They were faster, cleaner, more consistent.”

Championship opportunity in Qatar

In the next race in Qatar, Lando Norris has the chance to secure his first World Championship. The weekend will also feature a Sprint Race, awarding 8 points to the winner, 7 to second, and so on. If the British driver wins the main race, he can mathematically clinch the championship even without scoring points in the sprint. If he doesn’t secure the title in Qatar, he will have one final opportunity at the season-ending race in Abu Dhabi.
