The upcoming Formula 1 season will be crucial for the Austrian team, which could either fall further behind or try to recover and continue fighting for the championship. Let’s take a look at Horner’s first statements regarding Red Bull’s 2025 campaign.
Red Bull had a period of dominance over its rivals, particularly in 2023, when it secured victory in 21 out of 22 races, with Ferrari’s win in the Singapore Grand Prix being the only exception.
In 2024, the team started the season strongly in terms of on-track results. However, tensions were high within the garage due to the Horner case, which unsettled team members and kept everyone on edge for several race weekends.
As for the car’s performance, it began to decline as rivals developed their machines and caught up with the reigning champions. The second half of 2024 saw a less dominant Red Bull, allowing Ferrari and McLaren to battle it out, with a brief resurgence from Mercedes that was short-lived.
The causes of the decline, according to Christian Horner
Looking ahead to 2025, Red Bull’s team principal reflected on 2024. By analyzing last season’s issues, the team hopes to get back on level terms with its competitors.
“We understood where our development wasn’t optimal last year. After the upgrades introduced in Imola, the car became more difficult to drive: when we managed to hit the right operating window, we were competitive, but even the slightest deviation made the car really problematic.”
Christian Horner reassured Red Bull fans, explaining that the factory has been hard at work during the winter break. “The engineers have focused a lot on widening that window over the winter—not necessarily adding outright performance but simply expanding the operating range.”
So how will Red Bull arrive in the 2025 Formula 1 season? Will they have solved last year’s difficulties, or will their struggles continue?
