Max Verstappen reflects on “to gain crucial points for the F1 championship” in Mexico City. The comments of Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez ahead of the Mexico race.

It hasn’t been exactly four months since he won a Grand Prix, but Max Verstappen doesn’t care. Since that June 23 when he triumphed in Montmeló, Red Bull has gradually lost its edge, sometimes becoming the fourth force on track (as in Monza). However, the world champion has demonstrated why he can boast three championships and why a fourth is close, achieving vital placements and especially winning crucial duels with Lando Norris, the only one who could trouble him in the standings.

Max Verstappen’s comments
Yes, the fourth title is near, but not yet achieved. And that’s why Max Verstappen, after the podium and the controversies in Austin, wants to focus immediately on this weekend’s commitment, perhaps increasing his +57 over his rival: “Mexico is always a great race and, of course, it’s ‘Checo’s’ home GP, so there’s always an incredible atmosphere. The track is at such a high altitude that you have to adapt a bit more, but historically we’ve always done well here and I’ve always enjoyed driving on this track,” said the Dutchman.

“In Austin, we made good progress and saw promising improvements with the car, but they weren’t enough for the race,” he concluded. “The team is working hard to resolve these issues, but in the end, it was a step forward in the right direction, and winning the Sprint was a boost for the team. We’re heading into the second race of the triple-header, so it will be about maintaining this momentum and continuing to gain crucial points for the championship.”

Sergio Perez’s comments
“Mexico is the most important weekend of the season for me, and every year it seems to get bigger. Even in Austin, it felt like I was at home; I think this week might be a bit crazy,” added Sergio Perez. “The important thing is to manage to shut out the noise off the track and focus on the job at hand. Ultimately, the most important thing for me would be to secure another podium for my fans and for my country, at home. Over the weekend in the United States, the car turned out to be a bit more suited to us, but there are still many things we need to understand. I had some difficulties with the balance, and we need to resolve these issues to be competitive on a very different track like Mexico City. I will do everything possible to make my country smile on Sunday evening.”
