We are now used to seeing him in the garage or in the paddock, often giving sharp interviews. But even Helmut Marko may soon say goodbye to Max Verstappen, Red Bull, and F1, as confirmed by the team’s super consultant from Milton Keynes himself.
The Austrian is close to turning 82 and is starting to think about retirement away from the racing world. In the past, before returning to motorsport, he had focused on other activities, such as managing the hotels owned by his family. He might soon return to pursuing hobbies unrelated to motorsport.
Goodbye yes, but under one condition
In a recent interview on the YouTube channel of formel1.de, Helmut Marko spoke for the first time about the possibility of saying goodbye to F1 and Red Bull, even though his future seems to be linked to that of Max Verstappen. “I have many other interests outside of Formula 1. Of course, when I’m in the paddock, I only think about that and everything needed to achieve our goals. But my life is also about other things,” said Red Bull’s super consultant to formel1.de.
“A life without F1? It’s not impossible to imagine. Certainly, if Max Verstappen were to say goodbye to Red Bull, I could think about retiring. That would be a good reason to do so,” the Austrian added.
It would thus be the potential departure of the four-time world champion that could make Helmut Marko reconsider. And based on the latest rumors about Verstappen’s future, it’s not so unlikely that the current season could be the last for the trio that has brought Red Bull success over the years.
