Red Bull and McLaren exchanged heated words after Singapore GP qualifying, with attention focused on Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. Norris ended the session with his McLaren in only fifth place, but the controversy centered on the final Q3 incident, where the British driver was accused by Verstappen of interrupting his flying lap.
The incident occurred at turn 16, where Max was approaching to complete his lap. The Dutch driver was in contention for pole position, but he claimed that the presence of car #4 distracted him enough to lock up and abandon the lap.
The response from Lando
Norris quickly responded after Red Bull criticized his behavior during the Singapore qualifying. Max had expressed his frustration publicly, visibly upset by what happened. Norris, on the other hand, seemed puzzled by this reaction.
“They always complain about everything. They’re Red Bull. I can’t even understand it—I was three seconds ahead,” Norris told Autosport. A similar view was shared by McLaren Team Principal Zak Brown, who defended his driver after reviewing the incident.
Tomorrow, Max Verstappen will start from second position, with only George Russell ahead of him. It’s hard to say if the Dutch driver would have had a real chance at pole, but it’s certain that Lando will start fifth and will have to fight his way up the grid. If Red Bull proves competitive in the race on this track, the situation leading into Abu Dhabi could change, especially given a McLaren that has shown recent struggles.
