Racing Bulls loses its technical director just days before the start of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship.
Jody Egginton, an engineer who has worked in Faenza for the past 10 years—most recently as technical director—is leaving the team led by Laurent Mekies to join the parent company, Red Bull.
Starting April 1, Jody Egginton will take on the role of Engineering Director at Red Bull Advanced Technologies, officially assuming his new position on that date.
Jody Egginton’s career in Formula 1 spans nearly three decades. He made his debut as a junior designer at Tyrrell in 1996 before moving to Midland—later Spyker—and then Force India. He then joined Lotus, his last stop before arriving in Faenza in 2014 as Head of Vehicle Performance.
In 2017, Egginton became Deputy Technical Director, and two years later, he was promoted to Technical Director of the team, which transitioned from Toro Rosso to AlphaTauri and, finally, to Racing Bulls.
To replace Jody Egginton, the Faenza team will divide his responsibilities among Tim Goss, currently Chief Technical Officer, Guillaume Cattelani (Car Performance), and Andrea Landi (Car Design).
“Being part of this team for over 10 years has been a fantastic experience for me,” said Jody Egginton. “I have many memorable moments from this adventure. But after 20 years of focusing solely on Formula 1, I felt it was time for a change.”
“I will take on the role of Engineering Director at Red Bull Advanced Technologies, and right now, the company has an incredibly exciting list of projects. So I can’t wait to start this new challenge,” Egginton concluded.
This was the farewell message from Laurent Mekies, Team Principal of Racing Bulls: “As a long-time Technical Director, Jody was instrumental in driving innovation and fostering the team’s growth.”
“I want to thank Jody for his expertise and for the important contribution he has made to the team and the company’s upward trajectory. We wish him the best for this new challenge within the Red Bull family.”
