Pirelli began its 2027 F1 tyre test at the Hungaroring on Tuesday, with Alpine, Audi and Aston Martin evaluating several development compounds for next season. Franco Colapinto, Gabriel Bortoleto and Jack Crawford completed 405 laps between them in demanding conditions, providing the tyre manufacturer with a substantial amount of data from the opening day.
The Hungarian circuit hosted the first of two scheduled Pirelli testing days following the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix. The session represented another important stage in preparations for next season, while Formula 1 continues through its current 2026 championship calendar.
Pirelli’s 2027 F1 tyre test focuses on C3, C4 and C5 compounds
The three drivers began the day with a series of screening runs using different versions of the C3 compound. These were followed by longer runs designed to assess the performance and degradation characteristics of the most promising options.
The Alpine and Audi drivers also tested several C4 and C5 compound variants through qualifying simulations and higher-mileage stints. The different programmes allowed Pirelli to collect information across a range of conditions, workloads and tyre specifications.
Franco Colapinto sets the fastest time at the Hungaroring
Franco Colapinto completed 128 laps for Alpine, covering 561 kilometres and setting the fastest time of the day with a 1:20.371. Gabriel Bortoleto recorded the highest mileage, completing 141 laps and 618 kilometres for Audi. The Brazilian driver’s best lap was a 1:20.813.
Jack Crawford completed 136 laps for Aston Martin, covering 596 kilometres and setting a best time of 1:24.598. As each driver followed a different testing programme and mileage target, the lap times do not necessarily provide a direct comparison of outright performance.
Hot conditions provide valuable tyre data
Track temperature reached a maximum of 53°C during the test, while the air temperature climbed to 30°C. The heat allowed Pirelli to examine the performance and degradation of its development compounds under particularly demanding conditions.
Testing will continue at the Hungaroring on Wednesday, with only Franco Colapinto and Gabriel Bortoleto returning to the circuit. The Alpine and Audi drivers will complete a programme similar to the one carried out during Tuesday’s opening session.
