The future of Franco Colapinto in Formula 1 is far from settled. The young Argentine talent, who joined Williams after the mid-point of this season to replace Logan Sargeant has delivered impressive performances, but his seat for 2025 is not yet guaranteed. Despite strong showings on track, Franco Colapinto faces a critical crossroads. While the Grove-based team appreciates his abilities, they have already confirmed Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz for the next championship. The young driver’s only remaining hopes lie with Red Bull or its satellite team, Racing Bulls. The Austrian group has shown significant interest in the driver from Pilar, with Christian Horner spotted in the Williams hospitality area during the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend. However, no official confirmations have been made, and the competition for a seat alongside Max Verstappen is intense, with Perez backed by strong sponsorship and potentially staying on for another season.
F1, Lewis Hamilton praises Franco Colapinto’s talent and hopes for his future
Lewis Hamilton shared his thoughts on Franco Colapinto’s future in Formula 1 during a press conference in Interlagos, where the two were present together: “I think he has earned the right to be here,” said the seven-time world champion, commenting on the young Argentine driver’s prospects. “There’s still a seat available, and he says it’s not up to him. My advice is: make sure it becomes yours. Push, do everything you can to secure that position.”
Lewis further added: “In the end, he just needs to keep focusing on his work every weekend, as he’s already doing. I hope he has good people behind him who are supporting him in the right way to ensure he’s still here racing next year.”
Speaking about the challenges Franco Colapinto has faced, Lewis Hamilton praised the driver: “He’s done an incredible job, considering he was called up at the last minute and thrown straight into the deep end of this sport. Most of us, when entering Formula 1, have at least some preparation. Look at young Kimi Antonelli, for example: he’ll have over 20 days of testing before his first race, a rare opportunity. But Colapinto didn’t have that. He was suddenly thrust onto the track and performed exceptionally. It’s always great to see young talent emerge and shine. He proved it in his very first race: we had a little battle on track, and he was extremely safe, tough but fair. He’s truly shown he deserves his place here.” – the future Ferrari driver concluded.
