Alpine’s Comeback
The start of the 2024 Formula 1 season seemed to foreshadow a disastrous year for Alpine, especially in terms of results. However, with Oliver Oakes taking over as the new Team Principal, Flavio Briatore’s influence, and Pierre Gasly’s excellent performances (including a podium finish alongside his teammate in Brazil), the situation turned around completely. The French team ultimately secured 6th place in the Constructors’ Championship.
Pierre Gasly’s Record
This unexpected achievement was largely thanks to Pierre Gasly, who also made Formula 1 history. Specifically, the Frenchman avoided any collisions with other cars or barriers throughout the entire season. As a result, the 28-year-old did not incur any damage to his car during the championship. No driver before him had ever accomplished such a feat. Consequently, Alpine did not have to spend even a single euro on repairs for his car.
The ‘Damage’ Rankings
“All the goals for this season have been achieved: 6th in the Constructors’, 10th in the Drivers’ Championship, and zero damage throughout the year.” Pierre Gasly expressed his pride and happiness over the team radio after crossing the finish line in Abu Dhabi, proud of having outperformed everyone else in terms of avoiding damage.
Behind him in this unique ranking of drivers who incurred the least repair costs for their teams are Liam Lawson and Valtteri Bottas, tied in second place at $125,000, with Lewis Hamilton in third at $320,000. The worst, reflecting a season to forget, is Sergio Perez: Red Bull had to shell out a staggering $4,861,000.
