French Formula 1 driver Pierre Gasly has expressed his confidence that former Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner will make a comeback to the Formula 1 paddock in the near future, following his abrupt departure from the Austrian team.
Just one week after the Belgian Grand Prix, the first race held without Christian Horner on the Red Bull pit wall after his long tenure, the Formula 1 championship now moves to Budapest for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Hungaroring circuit holds particular significance for Pierre Gasly, as it was the site of his final race with the senior Red Bull Racing team back in 2019. That season saw the Frenchman first promoted to partner Max Verstappen at Red Bull before being demoted mid-season to the junior team then known as Toro Rosso, now rebranded as Racing Bulls.
While Pierre Gasly’s career in Formula 1 has continued without interruption—first with AlphaTauri and now with Alpine—the same cannot be said for Christian Horner, who was unexpectedly dismissed by Red Bull Racing just days before the Spa-Francorchamps round. The sudden nature of his exit shocked the motorsport world, especially considering Horner’s two-decade-long service at the helm of Red Bull. During his leadership, the team enjoyed two golden eras, first with Sebastian Vettel and later with Max Verstappen, securing a total of eight drivers’ championships (four each) and six constructors’ titles.
Despite the abrupt end to Horner’s time at Red Bull, Pierre Gasly does not believe this marks the end of the British manager’s career in the sport. Speaking to the media ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Alpine driver shared his belief that Horner’s expertise and accomplishments make him a valuable asset for any team on the grid.
Pierre Gasly remarked that, in his opinion, Christian Horner’s skill and leadership credentials are beyond doubt, especially considering the number of championships he helped the team win over the past twenty years. The French driver said Horner’s success with Red Bull Racing was nothing short of impressive and praised his ability to manage a top-level team at the highest level of motorsport.
Gasly added that he was sure Horner would eventually return to the Formula 1 paddock, stating that with his level of experience and proven record of success, there is no question that other teams would be interested in hiring him. In the eyes of the Frenchman, Christian Horner’s future in Formula 1 remains very much alive.
