The world championship duel between the two McLaren drivers moves to Azerbaijan as the rivalry between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris resumes.
The head-to-head continues
After a weekend of relaxation, everything is set for the restart of the battle between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris for the Formula 1 World Championship. The previous round in Monza saw the Englishman finish ahead of his rival in second place, following discussions over a team order that repositioned car #4 ahead of car #81 after Norris’s slow pit stop.
However, Piastri still holds a 31-point advantage, and the next round theoretically favors him. The F1 circus heads to Baku, where a year ago the Australian claimed a victory that proved crucial in McLaren’s pursuit of the Constructors’ Championship.
Drivers’ comments
“I have extremely positive memories of Baku from last year,” Piastri said ahead of the weekend. “I consider it one of my favorite races overall, and it’s always an advantage to return to a track where you’ve achieved a strong result. My only goal is to achieve the same outcome this weekend. I’m leading the drivers’ championship and I’m very satisfied with my driving.”
On the other hand, Norris, returning from his MotoGP outing in Misano, will need to work on closing the gap at the top of the standings. “I’m excited to race again this weekend in Baku,” the Englishman stated. “Street circuits present unique challenges, and I can’t wait to get on track and test myself. I’ve returned to the MTC and am working hard to be in the best position to fight for another victory.”
