F1 | Abu Dhabi GP – Title missed but confidence strong: Oscar Piastri reflects proudly on his McLaren season
Despite the disappointment of missing out on the world championship at Abu Dhabi, Oscar Piastri looked back on his season with McLaren with a smile, stating, “I am proud of the work we have done.”
Even though Oscar Piastri finished second in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Australian driver was unable to secure the Drivers’ Championship with McLaren. Car number 81 maximized every opportunity during the race, including a remarkable opening-lap overtake on Lando Norris and a strategy different from his teammate. However, these efforts were not enough to claim first place, as Norris only needed a third-place finish to secure his first world title.
The pride of Piastri and the championship disappointment
In an interview with F1 following the final round, Oscar Piastri described his feelings after losing the Drivers’ Championship to Lando Norris, reflecting on his 2025 season with McLaren with a smile.
“How do I feel? Honestly, quite good. I knew that today I would have needed a perfect alignment of the stars to win the championship,” said the Australian. “In the end, I did my best and put myself in the best possible position to try to win the race and give myself the best opportunities, but it didn’t work out. I think we can be very proud of the season we’ve had.”
“On a personal level, of course, it’s not exactly the finish I would have wanted, but looking at the season as a whole, I am very proud of the work my team and I managed to do to make so much progress compared to last year. I look forward to tackling many more challenges in the future.”
“Ultimately, there were highs and lows throughout the year. I will look back on the highs with a lot of pride and joy, and at the lows with many lessons learned. There are still many years ahead of me, and I hope there will be many more opportunities.” – the Australian concluded at the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
With completely new cars arriving in 2026, Oscar Piastri heads into the winter knowing he has already proven he belongs at the sharp end. The title may have slipped away by 13 points this time, but his calm reflection and burning ambition suggest it won’t be long before he’s fighting for the crown again.
