After four races without a podium and losing the lead in the championship standings, Oscar Piastri admitted he finally felt comfortable again behind the wheel of his MCL39. “I feel much happier today compared to the last few weeks. The feeling with the car is back, even if the lap wasn’t perfect. I had a couple of tricky moments, but overall it’s been a good day,” said the McLaren driver after the session.
The Australian explained how tyre behaviour differences played a key role during his flying laps. “The Softs behaved differently from what I expected. A couple of mistakes in the first run cost me a bit of time, but the overall balance was much better than in Mexico,” he commented, underlining the progress made by the team since the last round.
Looking ahead to the rest of the weekend, Oscar Piastri remained optimistic despite the unpredictable weather forecast that could shake up the Sprint and the main race. “Saturday will be an interesting day. Let’s see what kind of weather we get, but I’m ready to take every opportunity that comes. The pace today was good, and I hope it stays that way in the race,” he added with confidence.
Once again, McLaren proved to be the benchmark at the front of the field, confirming its strong form across different track conditions. For Oscar Piastri, the Brazilian Grand Prix could mark the turning point of his season — a weekend to rediscover his early-season pace and reassert himself as a contender in the title fight against Lando Norris. The confidence is back, and McLaren looks ready for another internal showdown in Sao Paulo.
