McLaren is writing an important chapter in endurance racing history. The Woking-based company has officially announced its entry into the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) starting in the 2027 season, marking a significant return to the world of endurance racing. McLaren will field a new Hypercar to compete in the premier class of the WEC.
The program will involve the development of a Hypercar in accordance with either the LMH or LMDh regulations – details of which will be revealed in the coming months – with the goal of competing both in the WEC’s top class and, potentially, in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It’s an ambitious challenge, but one that perfectly aligns with the brand’s sporting and technological vision.
Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, emphasized that endurance racing represents an ideal platform to push innovation, strengthen fan connections, and solidify the brand’s global presence. Following F1, IndyCar, and Formula E, WEC will become the fourth international championship in which McLaren will field an official team.
The year 2027 will be historic: for the first time since their 1995 Le Mans victory, McLaren will return to fight for the overall win in the world’s most iconic motorsport event.
Zak Brown himself, McLaren’s CEO, commented simply but powerfully on the news of their return with three impactful words: “We Are Back.”
