Nico Hülkenberg, reliable as ever
Among the various market moves for 2025, Kick Sauber’s signing of Nico Hülkenberg risks going unnoticed. It’s no coincidence that the future Audi entrusted the German with the wheel: his nationality plays a minor role here; having Nico Hülkenberg in the team provides security and valuable points—two aspects that have recently been lacking in Hinwil.
Haas can attest to this, having given the 1987-born driver a second chance and discovering a seasoned professional who outperformed Kevin Magnussen, scored points in half the weekends (12 out of 24), and finished 11th in the drivers’ standings.
Nico Hülkenberg’s words
Nico Hülkenberg is currently the ideal driver for a team looking to grow. He brings experience, reliable performance, and is thriving in a second phase of his career. Even with the new generation of cars—despite missing the first year—he hasn’t missed a beat. The German is keen to highlight this and draws a parallel between himself and Max Verstappen: “Regardless of the car generation, he’s fast. I’ve experienced the same,” he told his compatriots at Motorsport-Total.
“Of course, I’ve also had ups and downs, even with the older car generations, and things didn’t end well with Renault. But that was due to other factors,” he continued. “The rules and cars change every five or six years. So, as a driver, you have to adapt and learn anew. Otherwise, you have a relatively short career in F1.”
