The mystery deepens
From finishing seventh in Q1 to missing the race “due to pain that had become unbearable after being managed for the past six weeks” (according to Aston Martin’s official statement), Lance Stroll’s absence from the starting grid at the Spanish GP has now turned into a full-blown case—and understandably so.
The Canadian driver has already had several outbursts of anger and frustration inside the Aston Martin garage after sessions or runs in the past, and most likely, Barcelona was another chapter in the long list of occasions when the team owner’s son failed to manage his emotions with more self-control.
Sky Sports UK commentator David Croft, during the ‘F1 Show’ broadcast, revealed a behind-the-scenes episode that illustrates just how much anger Stroll let out: “I’ve heard a helmet was thrown with such force that it got damaged after hitting the wall,” Croft said. “All of this happened amid yelling and swearing. Lance has shown before that he punches walls, though usually they’re partition walls that can’t hurt him. I don’t believe this is an issue that’s been ongoing for weeks. If that were true, he wouldn’t have gotten in the car, and the team would have put Felipe Drugovich in. If Lance Stroll really had a problem, how could he have set the seventh fastest time in Q1?”
