
Alex Albon expressed a heartfelt message for the victims of the earthquake that struck his homeland, Thailand. Yesterday, a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake devastated several areas of Southeast Asia, particularly Myanmar, in neighboring Burma.
The destructive impact of the earthquake was felt as far as Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, where a 30-story building under construction collapsed in just five seconds. A video showing people fleeing in panic has gone viral. The tremors were also felt in Bangladesh, India, Laos, and China.
One of the latest shocks was recorded in Sagaing, central Myanmar, followed by a 6.4-magnitude aftershock. Hundreds of casualties and injuries have been reported, along with extensive destruction of buildings and infrastructure, making it one of the most severe earthquakes in recent years.
Alex Albon expressed his solidarity with his fellow countrymen affected by the earthquake through his social media profile: “Sending my thoughts to the people of Bangkok. Please stay safe.”
According to the latest reports, the Thai government has declared a state of emergency. Public services and businesses remain closed for now, while authorities are working around the clock to ensure the safety of the population.
The BBC has reported that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will support relief efforts in Myanmar and Thailand. The organization consists of ten member countries, including the two affected by the powerful earthquake.
Alexander Albon was born in London to a British father and a Thai mother. In Formula 1, he competes under the Thai flag. Recently, he has also voiced his support for Thailand’s bid to host a Grand Prix.
