Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing’s team principal, has expressed confidence that Max Verstappen will approach fatherhood with the same ease that has made him one of the best drivers in the world.
In early December, Max Verstappen announced that his partner, Kelly Piquet, is expecting their first child. The four-time Formula 1 World Champion shared his excitement about becoming a father.
Max Verstappen as a Father: His Team Principal’s “Prediction”
Max Verstappen mentioned he already has some “training” as a stepfather to Penelope, Kelly Piquet’s five-year-old daughter from her previous relationship with former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat. Beyond this, the Dutchman has a large family, including a sister, Victoria, and two half-brothers, Jason Jaxx and Blue Jaye.
When asked about Max Verstappen’s future as a father, Christian Horner said: “He already has experience with younger siblings and his stepdaughter. When he’s around kids, he’s incredibly natural, even with my own children. I think fatherhood will come very naturally to him.”
Christian Horner then joked about how parenthood might impact Max Verstappen’s passion for sim racing: “Maybe he’ll prefer to do more sim racing to avoid sleepless nights. You never know.”
Max Verstappen is well-known for his love of sim racing, frequently competing for Team Redline even during Grand Prix weekends. Christian Horner sees this dedication as part of what makes him an extraordinary driver: “He loves racing. If he’s not racing in the real world, he’s doing it online. That defines him as the ultimate driver.”
Christian Horner also praised Max Verstappen’s integrity and talent, adding: “What you see is what you get. He’s a genuinely pleasant young man, and now he’s about to become a father. He has a big heart, immense passion for the sport, and drives with both passion and conviction. The combination of that and his sublime talent is what defines Max Verstappen.”
