Friday’s free practice in Abu Dhabi begins with joyous news: one of the F1 drivers has revealed he is going to be a dad. On Instagram, the driver shared a photo that leaves no room for doubt, accompanied by a caption.
“Mini Verstappen-Piquet on the way. We couldn’t be happier with our little miracle.” Max Verstappen and his partner Kelly Piquet will soon become parents.
Judging by the photo, the daughter of former F1 driver Nelson Piquet is in an advanced stage of pregnancy. The couple’s relationship began in 2020 and has been solid from the start.
Who is Kelly Piquet, Max Verstappen’s girlfriend?
Born in 1988, Kelly Piquet is nine years older than Max Verstappen. She comes from a famous family: her father is the renowned Brazilian F1 world champion Nelson Piquet, and her mother is Dutch model Sylvia Tamsma. She attended Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, graduating in International Relations.
After an internship at a fashion company, she became a columnist for women’s magazines before returning to her passion: motorsport. In 2015, she became responsible for social media content coverage for Formula E.
In January 2017, Kelly Piquet began dating Russian F1 driver Daniil Kvyat. Their relationship produced a daughter, Penelope. At the end of 2020, the two separated, and she started dating Max Verstappen.
Last year, the Dutch world champion responded to rumors about a possible marriage: “Marriage? Me? Now that you’ve put me under public pressure, I need to set a date! I don’t know. Time will tell. At the moment, I’m very, very happy with Kelly. Personally, I haven’t set a date for when I’ll get down on one knee to ask her. That should happen spontaneously.”
