Sergio Perez is returning to F1 and will be at the Miami GP, and this could be related to the official presentation of the Cadillac livery, which will debut in the 2026 season. In fact, the Mexican driver’s return to the circus, his first since his departure from Red Bull, strangely coincides with the Cadillac event.
The news of the former Red Bull driver’s presence in Miami was shared by Autosport. It also seems that Perez has already been notified about the event in the American city. Nothing has been confirmed regarding his attendance at the new team’s event, but the coincidence seems to confirm recent market rumors.
Perez Returns to F1 Already at the Miami GP: Is Cadillac Involved?
It seems that Cadillac is in talks with both Sergio Perez and Guanyu Zhou, the current Ferrari driver. The two would be the leading candidates for the seat with what will become the 11th team on the grid starting next season.
The new team principal of Stake F1 Team, Jonathan Wheatley, has publicly expressed his support for a potential return of Sergio Perez to Formula 1, hoping that the Mexican driver will rejoin the Circus as early as 2026. This possibility is becoming more likely, especially with Cadillac’s official entry into the championship.
After a difficult 2024 season alongside Max Verstappen, which culminated in his departure from Red Bull, Perez chose to take a year off to focus on his family and consider a possible return in 2026. However, for Wheatley, who worked alongside Perez for four years at Red Bull, the Mexican driver’s talent is unquestionable.
“I think he’s more than capable of returning and quickly getting up to speed with a new team,” Jonathan Wheatley said to Formula.Hu. “He was in one of the toughest seats in F1, next to Max. With a teammate like that, you have to constantly look in the mirror and demand more and more from yourself.”
With Cadillac’s arrival in 2026, Perez would represent an ideal profile to lead the technical development of a new car. Wheatley confirms this: “He has always given clear and understandable technical feedback to the engineers. He’s a professional driver, fast, with a great attitude towards teamwork.”
The future of Sergio Perez in F1 is still uncertain, but the Mexican driver’s return to the paddock is no longer just a possibility. It’s becoming an increasingly concrete prospect.
