While many of his fellow Formula 1 drivers have already headed off on holiday, one F1 driver chose a different way to stay sharp by racing incognito at Silverstone, taking part in an event organised by Daytona Motorsport. With the 2025 season officially over, he decided to keep himself race-ready elsewhere, all while keeping a very low profile. Only at the end of the race did his rivals finally discover who had beaten them on track.
At the Daytona Motorsport event held at Silverstone, a certain Henry Shovlin appeared among the other competitors, blending in without attracting attention. “Cap pulled down. No fuss. He sat quietly in a corner during the briefing,” the organisers wrote on Daytona’s official social media account, describing the discreet presence of the mysterious driver.
As soon as the lights went out on track, the unknown racer jumped into a karting battle and immediately set an impressive pace. When the race came to an end and all the drivers removed their helmets, the truth was revealed: the man behind the visor was Kimi Antonelli.
“Fastest lap of the race with a three-second advantage in wet conditions,” the social media caption continued, accompanying a photo of the young Mercedes driver standing next to the timing board. The Italian was an astonishing five seconds quicker than his Williams colleague Alexander Albon, underlining just how dominant his performance had been.
The name Antonelli used to compete was “Henry Shovlin”, a clear tribute to Mercedes trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin. As a curious detail, the timing screens also featured a driver listed as “Tom Cruise”, who finished last in the classification.
It was an eye-catching performance from the Italian talent, who was rewarded this season with the award for rookie of the year. Looking ahead to 2026, all eyes will be firmly fixed on the young Formula 1 driver, especially with the introduction of the new technical regulations.
According to Toto Wolff, it will be the younger drivers who benefit the most from the regulation changes, adapting more quickly than established Formula 1 veterans such as Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.
Whether battling for victory in a top-spec F1 car or dominating a local karting session, the competitive drive of these elite drivers never truly switches off. As the focus shifts toward the intense preparations for the upcoming season, every performance, even those incognito, serves as a reminder of the talent pool powering the grid.
