Dominant Lando Norris
Lando Norris’ start to the season has been extremely promising, with a commanding pole position in dry conditions and a victory in the wet at the Australian Grand Prix. The British driver managed to stay focused even in the most intense moments and fully capitalized on the excellent potential of his MCL39.
More credit to McLaren or Lando Norris?
It was precisely the relationship between the car’s speed and the driver’s performance that Lando Norris wanted to address in a post-race interview with Sky UK, appearing somewhat irritated by journalists’ recent remarks: “People always talk too much about the car, as if… Too many media questions are just about the car, but Oscar and I drove very, very well yesterday in qualifying. I’m not saying others didn’t, but they shouldn’t have been that far behind. I don’t deny that we have the best car with a bit of an edge, but not everything depends on the car—that’s clear. The victory was deserved because we made good decisions as a team.” – he pointed out.
Lando Norris remains cautious about predictions
“The car is flying, but we will have races where we’ll struggle,” Lando Norris added at the end of the race, showing caution about the rest of the championship. “If we were racing in Bahrain, I wouldn’t be confident of winning. For China next week, I’m optimistic and believe we can be very, very strong because we already were last year.” – the McLaren driver added at the end of the Australian Grand Prix.
…but he sees himself as the favorite
However, in the press conference, the Briton didn’t hold back: “Let’s wait for a few more races before making predictions, but we are the favorites. We are the team to beat, especially because we have two drivers pushing each other, and that helps. Oscar Piastri and I pushed each other in qualifying, and that allowed us to be a tenth to a tenth and a half quicker than the others.” – he concluded.
