Lando Norris reveals his personal strategy for winning the Formula 1 World Championship: here is how the McLaren driver plans to spend the summer break to return stronger and more competitive for the second half of the 2025 season.
At the end of the first half of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship season, the internal battle at McLaren is extremely close. The two drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, are separated by only 9 points in the standings, with the advantage currently held by the young Australian, Oscar Piastri. As the sport enters its traditional summer break, British driver Lando Norris has shared his plan for how he will spend the upcoming weeks of downtime. For Norris, mental rest and temporarily disconnecting from the relentless demands of Formula 1 are essential elements in his bid to come back stronger, more focused, and ready to push for the World Championship title in the second part of the year.
Lando Norris on the importance of stepping back and resetting mentally
When asked whether his recent victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix had boosted his confidence, Lando Norris told Sky Sports F1 that he was already feeling more assured than ever before. “Right now, my confidence is the highest it’s ever been and I’m feeling very good,” explained the McLaren driver. “At the moment, I’m not lacking in confidence at all, and I feel like I’m able to extract a lot of performance from the car. But could it still be better? Yes, definitely.”
Despite his recent strong form, Lando Norris acknowledged that there are still several areas where he sees room for improvement. He admitted that the start and first lap of his last race in Hungary were not up to his usual standard. “For example, in this last race, my start and the opening lap weren’t great,” he said. “Although other first laps have gone well, and overall, my starts haven’t been bad.”
This self-criticism highlights Norris’s continuous push for perfection, even when things seem to be going well. He added, “There are definitely areas for improvement. I’m not making life easy for myself, and I need to simplify things a bit more than they are now.”
Mental reset, rest, and teamwork: Norris outlines his plan
Looking ahead to the summer break, Lando Norris stressed the importance of taking a step back and giving himself the chance to recharge both mentally and physically. He believes that distancing himself from the constant pressure and high demands of the Formula 1 environment is crucial. “I’ll enjoy the break, I’ll disconnect from Formula 1 for a while,” he said. “Then I’ll spend time with my team, working on a few specific things, trying to improve and understand what I can do better.”
This balanced approach reflects the growing maturity of the British driver, who is widely considered a serious contender for the 2025 Formula 1 title. Rather than obsessing over every detail during the break, Norris is choosing to rest and then return with a clear mind, ready to continue fighting for victories.
Lando Norris also commented on the ongoing battle between himself and his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri. The young British driver acknowledged the competitiveness within the team and the likely scenario that either he or Piastri will win each upcoming race. “I think both of us—Oscar and myself—are accepting the fact that one of us will probably win each race, and it’s going to be a constant back and forth until the end of the year.”
As the fight for the World Championship intensifies, Norris’s plan to disconnect, reflect, and improve may prove to be a decisive factor in whether he can edge out his teammate and ultimately secure his first-ever Formula 1 title.
