Lando Norris, what bad luck
Lando Norris’s retirement at the Dutch Grand Prix marked a significant turning point in the 2025 championship, with nine races remaining in the season. Oscar Piastri’s victory at Zandvoort officially put him in the lead of the drivers’ standings, increasing his advantage over Norris from 9 to 34 points. It will be interesting to see how the two drivers approach the remainder of the season, whether the Australian will focus on managing his lead and whether the Englishman will take more risks to close the gap.
After the race, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella explained that the problem that forced Norris to retire was likely related to the chassis rather than the Mercedes power unit.
McLaren clarifies the cause ahead of Monza
On Thursday in Monza, McLaren, as reported by The Race, provided full clarification on the reason behind the oil leak on car number 4 in the Netherlands. The component that failed was an engine oil pipe, which caused an oil leak detected by McLaren’s sensors. To prevent further damage, the team’s system automatically shut down the power unit.
For the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, McLaren has reinforced the affected oil pipe to prevent similar issues in future races.
