Speaking ahead of the race, Norris expressed his excitement about returning to the Marina Bay Street Circuit: “I can’t wait to race under the lights in Singapore again. After Baku, it was great to get back to Woking, reset with the team, and spend time in the simulator. I have great memories here—last year I won ahead of Verstappen and Piastri—so I’m ready to give everything once more.”
Team principal Andrea Stella: Singapore is the perfect circuit to showcase the McLaren
McLaren’s Team Principal Andrea Stella also highlighted how Singapore presents both a challenging and stimulating test, particularly in terms of physical and mental demands. The combination of high humidity and the time zone shift makes it tough for both drivers and the team.
Stella added context on why the track suits McLaren, recalling Norris’ impressive victory last year and emphasizing the MCL39’s characteristics: “We return to the circuit where Lando achieved an incredible win in 2024. It’s a high-downforce street circuit with higher tire degradation than Baku, which should suit the MCL39 well. The entire team, both on track and in Woking, is motivated to continue scoring crucial points in both championships.”
McLaren has a chance to secure the world championship
Currently, McLaren leads Mercedes by 333 points in the Constructors’ Championship. In the Drivers’ Championship, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri sit at the top of the standings, followed by Max Verstappen, George Russell, and the Ferrari drivers. With 346 points still available this season, McLaren needs just 13 more points to clinch the world championship, making Singapore a pivotal race for the team and its drivers.
