F1 | Is Piastri under pressure for the world title? The Australian takes a clear stance
Is Oscar Piastri starting to feel the pressure as he chases his first Formula 1 World Championship? The McLaren driver admitted: “It will naturally increase as the races go by…” With just seven rounds remaining, the title battle is intensifying, and all eyes are on the young Australian.
After his first-lap retirement in Azerbaijan, Oscar Piastri saw his lead in the Drivers’ Championship shrink. His McLaren teammate Lando Norris is now only 25 points behind, while Max Verstappen has reduced the gap to 69 points following back-to-back victories at Monza and Baku. The big question is whether Oscar Piastri can maintain composure and withstand the pressure to secure his maiden F1 title.
As the fight for the championship reaches its most decisive phase, Oscar Piastri believes his previous experience in junior categories will play a crucial role. Having already won championships in both Formula 3 and Formula 2, he explained that those lessons will help him deal with the intensity of the run-in. “The intensity will naturally build as we get closer to the end of the year, and I’m ready for that,” said the Australian driver.
“I’ve already been in this position in other championships, and that feeling and the countdown towards the end of the year are the same,” Oscar Piastri continued. “So I’m prepared, and I can rely on Mark [Webber, his manager], but ultimately it comes down to how I handle the situation, how I drive, and how I face what’s coming.”
Piastri also stressed the importance of having the right people around him during such a critical stage of the season. “Having a strong team and a good group of people around you is fundamental, to have someone to rely on. Mark is definitely one of those people, and I’m excited to see how things go.”
With rivals closing in and the pressure mounting, Oscar Piastri remains confident. The final stretch of the season will put his maturity, consistency, and ability to handle the spotlight to the ultimate test as he aims to deliver McLaren’s first drivers’ title in decades.
